US President Donald Trump stated that tariffs on semiconductor and pharmaceutical imports will be announced in about a week.

The initial tariff rate on pharmaceuticals will be low, but it will escalate to 150% within a year and a half, with a final rate of 250%. The tariff measures for semiconductors and chips will be in a different category.

Separately, Trump praised TSMC's (TSM.US) plans to expand its U.S. operations, claiming that TSMC will invest US$300 billion in Arizona to build the world's largest chip and semiconductor factory.

However, according to TSMC's previously announced plans, the company's total investment over the next few years is only US$165 billion. Neither TSMC nor the White House responded to Trump's latest claim regarding TSMC's investment scale.
